How to include your pets in your wedding or ceremony

Dog at wedding

Pets are an important part of the family, so why not have them involved in your big day?  If your pet is well-behaved and a significant part of your relationship, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t share in the joy of your wedding or ceremony.  Whether it’s your dog, cat, or even a furry friend that’s more exotic, having them there can make the day even more special.

Here are a few ideas for including your pet in your ceremony because let’s face it, they deserve to be part of the celebration too!

1. Pets as ring bearers

Why not make your dog the official ring bearer?  Picture this: your pet trotting down the aisle with the rings attached to a pretty collar made especially for the occasion, delivering the rings to you and your partner.

It’s a cute moment that will have your guests cooing.  Just make sure your pet is calm enough for the job and doesn’t run off into the distance with your carefully selected rings!

2. Walking down the aisle together

If your pet is a calm and well-behaved companion, why not have them accompany you down the aisle?  Whether it’s your dog walking proudly by your side or your cat perched in a basket, it can make for a truly heartwarming moment.

They’re part of the family, so it only feels right that they’re there to witness the start of your next chapter.

3. Welcoming guests

Your pet can help set the tone as guests arrive.  Whether it’s greeting them at the entrance or handing out wedding favours (yes, pets can do that too!), it’s a fun and personal way to include them.  Just imagine your dog wagging their tail as guests walk by - what a way to make people feel at home!

4. Exiting the ceremony together

Once you’ve said your vows, why not make your grand exit with your pet there with you? Whether it’s walking out as a newlywed couple with your dog leading the way or having your pet join in on a confetti moment, it’s a great way to end your ceremony on a high note.

You’ll have a perfect family moment that’s captured in your photos forever.

5. Keep it stress-free

If you’re planning to have your pet involved, it’s essential to make sure they’re calm and collected.  If you’re worried about your pet getting too excited and causing chaos, no need to fret.

I have a friend, Emma, who is a dog chaperone.  She’s used to helping dogs do their part in a wedding day or other ceremony without getting carried away in all the excitement of the occasion or distracted by a passing butterfly.

With her experience as a dog owner and veterinary assistant, she knows how to keep your pet on track, ensuring they stay relaxed and enjoy the day too.

The biggest takeaway

Including your pet in your wedding day is a beautiful way to celebrate your whole family.  With a little planning and some help from experts like Emma, your pet can be an important part of your ceremony without causing any fuss and let’s face it, some animals are better behaved than humans, especially little ones!

Just remember to relax, keep things light-hearted and enjoy having your furry friend by your side on this special day.
