How to stay calm and confident before your wedding day
It’s completely normal to feel nervous before your wedding day. After all, it’s one of the biggest moments of your life! But here’s the thing - this day is about celebrating your love and the future you’re creating together and believe me, it will all be over in a flash so make the most of every single moment?
As someone who’s not just a celebrant but also a therapist trained to help people overcome a lack of confidence and fear of public speaking, I know a thing or two about calming those pre-wedding nerves.
Nerves are natural but with the right approach, you can make sure they don’t steal the spotlight on your big day.
1. Nerves are completely normal
First things first - if you’re feeling nervous, you’re not going to be alone or the first. It’s perfectly normal to have those butterflies before walking down the aisle, waiting for your bride to arrive or speaking your vows.
But remember, your wedding day is all about celebrating love, so take a deep breath and focus on the joy that’s waiting for you.
2. You’ve got this – with a little prep
The key to feeling calm and confident is preparation. Think about how much effort you’ve already put into planning this day - from choosing your venue to picking the perfect dress or suit. You’ve got this! But there’s also another step you can take to tackle those nerves head-on.
As a therapist, I’ve helped many people overcome fear of public speaking and build confidence, and I can share some simple techniques to help you feel calm before your wedding day. Practice deep breathing exercises and visualisation - picture yourself standing there, calm and confident, saying your vows with a smile and if you’re open to the idea, I can send you some hypnosis to work on your subconscious mind.
Rehearse your ceremony both aloud and in your mind, get comfortable with the flow and trust in yourself. You’ve planned this day with care and it’ll all come together.
3. Know that things might go wrong (and that’s okay!)
Let’s be honest - weddings rarely go exactly as planned. A misplaced flower girl, a wardrobe malfunction or even a few forgotten lines - it happens. But here’s the good news: no problem is insurmountable and contingency plans are always there if necessary.
The most important thing is remembering that your guests won’t be focused on every little detail. They’re there to celebrate you and your loved one.
If something goes off track, smile, take a breath and keep going. It’s part of the journey and makes for great stories later!
4. Support when you need it most
On the day itself, I’ll be right there with you, supporting you through every moment. I’ve helped many couples navigate those pre-ceremony jitters and I’ll be by your side to guide you through each minute of the ceremony. I’m there to make sure you feel grounded, confident and supported, so you can focus on the love and joy of the day.
The biggest takeaway
Here’s the thing - people don’t remember exactly what you say but they will remember how you made them feel. So, relax, smile and enjoy each precious moment.
The more you enjoy yourself, the more your guests will enjoy the celebration with you. Trust me, when you’re relaxed and confident, it will shine through and your day will be everything you dreamed of and more.
And if you ever need a bit of extra help or guidance before the big day, I’m always here to support you. Your calm and confidence will set the tone for an unforgettable celebration of love.
